About the
ASSOCIATION
The “Escola Coronel” officially known as “Escola Municipal Coronel Pinto Ferraz” was closed in 2022. Our association was the result of the initiative of its former student Dr. Jose V. “Zito” Sartarelli to restore it and give it back to the population of Ribeirão Bonito.
What follows is the story of this dream.
Know the
“ESCOLA CORONEL”
“Escola Coronel” is an achievement in the history of the city.
It was the city’s first “grupo escolar” and was part of an ambitious educational project dating to the period of the First Republic of Brazil, which aimed to universalize education and create well-informed citizens. At the time, the government of the state of São Paulo built 123 schools like this as a sign of modernity and progress. Ribeirão Bonito’s school was designed by Manuel Sabater and was listed as a historic site by CONDEPHAAT in 2010. The building is an important representation of the prevailing style of educational buildings of the time which combined standard floor plans with unique decorative facades.
About the
RESTORATION
Closed in 2022 due to its advanced state of decay, the “Escola Coronel” needed help. That is when former student Dr. “Zito” Sartarelli, recognizing the architectural and sentimental value of of the building to the city of Ribeirão Bonito, decided on its full restoration. In order to carry out this project, the Associação de Restauro da Escola Coronel Pinto Ferraz was created. This team, formed by relatives and friends with valuable experience, has the specific goal of restoring the building and giving it back to the Municipality for it to be used as a school again.
